本乐法师作为太虚大师“人间佛教”思想的当代的重要践行者, 在其逾百年的生命历程中, 通过系统性的社会实践, 推动了佛教中国化现代化的转型。本文聚焦于本乐法师的五大实践维度: 在教育领域, 构建了从“佛化”基础教育到高等僧伽培养的完整体系, 强调僧才培养与社会责任相结合; 在祖庭重建中, 将报祖寺属性转化为集宗教修行与社会服务于一体的开放式平台; 青年教化方面, 创新性地将禅修解构为“可学分化”的模块课程, 实现了佛法与高校教育的深度融合; 在文化弘法上, 以书法为媒介, 开创了独特的“艺术+公益”弘法利生新模式; 在爱国公益层面, 将慈善救济与爱国情怀相融合, 并获得了国家层面荣誉认可。本乐法师用毕生行动向我们表明, “人间佛教”并不只是抽象理念或口号, 而是可通过教育、文化、慈善等多方路径具体展开落地的社会实践, 也为探索宗教与当代中国社会相适应提供了具有启发性的范式。
As an important contemporary practitioner of Master Taixu’s “Humanistic Buddhism” thought, Master Benle promoted the Sinicization and modernization of Buddhism through his systematic social practices during his life spanning more than a century. This paper focuses on five major dimensions of Master Benle’s practice. In education, he established a complete system ranging from basic “Buddhism-oriented” education to advanced monastic training, emphasizing the combination of Buddhist talent cultivation and social responsibilities. In restoring the ancestral temple (Baozu Temple) , he reshaped it into an open platform. integrating religious practice and social services. In guiding the youth, he innovatively deconstructed meditation into modular courses with “creditable components”, achieving a deep integration of Buddhist teachings and university education. In cultural Dharma propagation, using calligraphy as a medium, he created a unique new model of “art + public welfare” for spreading the Dharma and benefiting sentient beings. In patriotic and public welfare endeavors, he combined charitable relief with patriotic sentiment and earned national- level recognition. Master Benle’s lifelong actions show that “Humanistic Buddhism” is not merely an abstract concept or slogan, but a social practice that can be specifically implemented through multiple channels such as education, culture, and charity. His efforts also provide an inspiring paradigm for exploring how religion can adapt to contemporary Chinese society.
