Abstract | Strings of the Universe is an undergraduate book by B. Green in which the author focuses on the classical physics concept of string theory. In the book, String Theory shows that all matter and fundamental interacting forces in the universe are not made up of point particles, but rather of tiny vibrating strings, and that different vibrational modes of the strings can determine different properties of matter. In the book, the authors review the two fundamental theories of modern physics, starting with Einstein' s theory of relativity, which describes the structure of space-time and gravity on a macroscopic scale, and quantum mechanics, which reveals the characteristics of microscopic particles. The two have some inherent conflicts in in explaining the basic structure and mechanics of the universe. Using different metaphorical approaches and more straightforward and understandable language, Greene describes the intricacies of string theory in detail and can help readers understand the problems this theory has in resolving the conflicts between relativity and quantum mechanics. Throughout the book, the author discusses the potential of string theory in the development of physics and its far-reaching implications for future scientific inquiry.
