Current with the accelerating pace of global urbanization, “Urban Diseases” such as waterlogging and water scarcity are becoming increasingly severe. Sponge city construction has emerged as a vital strategy to address these urban water issues and to promote ecological sustainability. Remote Sensing Monitoring of Sponge Cities, authored by Zhenfeng Shao and Hongping Zhang and published by Science Press in 2022, closely focuses on the core requirements of sponge city remote sensing monitoring, and builds a complete system from theoretical models, technical methods to practical applications. The book uses remote sensing technology as the main tool to monitor key monitoring objects such as the underlying surface, water system, and ecological effects of sponge cities It introduces innovative techniques, including the “time-spacespectrum- angle” collaborative observation model and multi-source image fusion methods. Drawing on case studies from Wuhan and Hengqin New Area in Zhuhai, the book demonstrates the practical value of remote sensing throughout the planning, construction, and operation of sponge cities. This work not only provides theoretical support and practical guidance for sponge city monitoring but also fills a critical gap in the literature with its systematic treatment of the subject.
