To clarify the research hotspots and development trends in the field of grassroots governance in China since the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, this study employs CiteSpace and VOSviewer software, to conduct a visual analysis of 2555 related articles published between 2022 to 2025 in the CSSCI and Peking University Core Journals within the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) . 1) The number of publications in this field has shown an overall upward trend and is significantly influenced by national policies; 2) While the number of scholars and research institutions is large, their cooperation remains relatively weak; 3) Research hotspots primarily focus on the actors and institutions of grassroots governance, governance concepts and goals, governance technologies and tools, and social participation and practical application; 4) Future research trends include the improvement of grassroots governance policies, diversified and collaborative governance approaches, and technological innovation in governance approaches, with a growing emphasis on perspectives from sociology and management. In conclusion, although substantial progress has been made in grassroots governance research in China, further efforts are needed to enhance collaboration among scholars and institutions, learn from international models, and incorporate advanced governance concepts and successful practices.
